Wedding in Savognin, Graubünden
A mountain wedding in the historic alpine hamlet of Radons
A wedding venue in the heart of Graubünden’s wild, untouched mountain world
L&G’s wedding began with preparations and a couple’s shoot at Berghuus Radons — a historic mountain inn at the foot of Piz Forbesch. And as if that weren’t spectacular enough, they headed up to the Salaschigns chapel for the outdoor ceremony, which sits on a sun-drenched terrace high above the valley. The celebration then returned to the mountain hamlet of Radons, where the couple danced and feasted until the early hours of the morning, serenaded by the whistling of marmots and surrounded by an awe-inspiring alpine backdrop.
As a wedding photographer in Graubünden, this was an absolute highlight of my year.
Getting ready at Berghuus Radons
The couple had already spent the night before the wedding at the Berghuus. I started with the bride, who was getting her hair and make-up done with her sister in the spa area. They had told me beforehand that they didn’t want a formal first look — everything should feel relaxed and spontaneous, unfolding naturally in the moment. And that’s exactly how it was: wonderfully calm. Meanwhile, the groom was getting ready with his best man in the bedroom.
The interior of the mountain house, with its beautiful reclaimed wood panelling, exudes pure alpine chalet feeling. The warm wood tones, the light filtering through the small windows — and everywhere, views of the Graubünden mountain panorama.
Couple’s shoot with views of Piz Forbesch
The first couple’s shoot took place on a lush green meadow in front of Berghuus Radons — surrounded by spring flowers and with an open view across the wide valley to Piz Forbesch. The colours of the spring blooms, the mountain panorama, and of course the beautiful couple — for me as a wedding photographer, an absolute dream subject.
Second Couple’s shoot at dusk
The plan had been to shoot again at dusk — but we had to move it forward a little and the sun was still high in the sky. I’m so glad we took the photos anyway. This spot had been my absolute favourite when I scouted the location — the images against that raw, wild mountain backdrop represent exactly what I do: mountain weddings in Graubünden.
Outdoor ceremony in front of Salaschigns Chapel
Chairs were set out on the meadow in front of the chapel — left and right, with an aisle down the middle — and at the end stood a floral arch with a sweeping view into the valley. During the ceremony there was singing, tears, and plenty of laughter. The sun blazed and had many guests — especially the men in their suits — breaking a sweat, and even gave me a mild sunburn. After the ceremony, the apéro was ready, and the guests — most of whom had travelled from the canton of Aargau — enjoyed the Graubünden mountain panorama over a glass of wine and delicate bites of Bündnerfleisch and alpine cheese.
Wedding celebration at Camping Muntanela
Some guests arrived by campervan, others pitched a tent on the meadow. On the large wooden terrace of Restaurant Muntanela, there were drinks, games and surprises for the couple. It was so lovely on the terrace that the hosts had quite a job convincing the wedding party to head inside for dinner. Once the food was served, I said my goodbyes. The couple later told me they danced and celebrated until four in the morning.
What a wonderful mountain wedding!
