Wedding in Sedrun, Graubünden

A Mountain Wedding in the Upper Surselva

The Wedding Location in the Mountains of Graubünden

Sedrun lies at 1,405 meters above sea level and is one of the last villages in the Surselva before the Oberalp Pass — and that’s exactly where this wedding reportage in Graubünden took me. It was late May, the sun was shining on this cold Saturday morning, and the mountain peaks were still white from the snow that had fallen the week before.

The couple wished for me to be there from the early morning preparations — followed by the first look, the couple’s shoot, and then the church ceremony in the mountain church of Selva. Once again, I found myself at stunning wedding locations in Graubünden, accompanying another wonderful couple through their special day. A truly beautiful job.

Bridal & Groom Preparations

At 7:45 a.m., I stood at their front door. The bride and groom were getting ready in the same house, but in two separate apartments connected by a balcony. As a wedding photographer, it couldn’t have been more practical — I could easily move back and forth between them and document both preparations.

There is something incredibly special about being part of the first hours of a wedding day. The couple has just woken up — some sip coffee, others perhaps already enjoy a glass of sparkling wine. Parents, siblings, and witnesses are often present. The hairstyle is done, the wedding dress taken off its hanger, cufflinks fastened, shoes put on. It feels like a small ritual, where every gesture carries its own meaning.

Bride

First Look at Camping Viva in Sedrun

For the first look, we drove to the campsite where we had met a year earlier for their engagement shoot. The groom waited on the bridge with his best man — and then the bride arrived.

As always, it was a beautifully emotional moment when he turned around and saw her for the first time as his bride.

Couple’s Portrait Session

We took the couple’s portraits at various spots around the campsite, which I had scouted in advance. It was quite cold, and between photos we kept wrapping the bride in her little jacket.

The atmosphere was stunning: no people around, crisp mountain air, deep forest colors, and snow-covered peaks in the background. At the end, we took a few photos with the witnesses before heading back to the village square, where the post bus and the wedding guests were already waiting.

Church Ceremony in the Mountain Church of Selva

As a wedding photographer in Graubünden, I have visited many beautiful places — but Selva was new to me. This small mountain church definitely makes my list of the most beautiful wedding locations in Graubünden. Selva is part of the municipality of Tujetsch and has only 11 residents. A narrow road leads up to the church, and the view down into the valley is breathtaking.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds walked through a guard of honor formed by their guests and were warmly celebrated. An apéro followed in the church courtyard, where family and friends congratulated the couple and enjoyed a glass of wine in the warm spring sun.

Before taking the post bus back to Sedrun, the bride traditionally tossed her bouquet — and her sister caught it.

Apero in Dieni

The post bus then continued to Dieni, where the main apéro took place at Bar BigT. As we rounded the last curve and the parking area came into view, a huge surprise awaited us: 17 trucks lined up, honking as the post bus arrived. They were the groom’s colleagues, who had organized this impressive tribute for the couple.

At BigT, delicious bites and fun games prepared by clubs the couple belongs to were waiting. Time flew by. This is one of my favorite parts of any wedding reportage: the major moments have already been captured, and now I can move freely among the guests, capturing small, authentic moments.

Later, as the wedding party headed back to Sedrun for dinner at Hotel Cruna, my workday came to an end. Tired and content, I drove down the valley, already looking forward to editing the photos in the coming weeks.

Thank you, L&M, for letting me be part of your mountain wedding — I truly enjoyed it.

Wishing you all the best for your journey together. You are a wonderful couple.

Would you like me to capture your wedding as well?
