Wedding in Lenzerheide, Graubünden
A wedding report filled with emotional goosebump moments
The Wedding Venue in the Mountains of Graubünden
C&M’s wedding in Lenzerheide was a truly special celebration filled with love, joy, and emotional goosebump moments. The festivities took place in mid-September at PRIVA Alpine Lodge Lenzerheide, a beautiful resort by Lake Heidsee between Parpan and Vaz/Obervaz.
As a wedding photographer in Graubünden, I know from experience how quickly the weather can change in the mountains. Anyone planning a mountain wedding has to be prepared for anything — and that was exactly the case for C&M. Just a few days before the wedding, snowflakes were still falling, and their plans for an outdoor ceremony in the meadow were nearly washed away. But luck was on their side: temperatures rose again for the weekend, and Saturday turned into a beautiful, mild autumn day.
The entire wedding took place at the same location — from the preparations to the ceremony, the apéro, and the dinner. This made the day feel relaxed and stress-free. Guests traveled from the Zurich and Chur regions and also stayed overnight at PRIVA Alpine Lodge. I find this especially wonderful, as it allows everyone to fully enjoy the evening and gather again the next morning for breakfast, reflecting together on such a special day.
First Look at Lake Heidsee
At noon, I arrived at the lodge, where the nervous groom was waiting for me with his best man. Together, we drove to Lake Heidsee and walked to the meeting point for the first look.
Just as we were ready, the girls arrived — the bride and her maid of honor. The groom stood with his back turned to her. I gave her the signal, and she walked toward him, gently placing her hand on his shoulder. It was such an emotional moment when they saw each other for the first time as bride and groom. As a wedding photographer, it’s essential to step back during moments like this and avoid giving directions, allowing the couple to experience it fully and undisturbed.
Couple’s Shoot at Lake Heidsee
A few weeks before the wedding, we met at Lake Heidsee to scout some beautiful spots for the couple’s shoot. Whenever possible, I like to do this in advance so that everything feels relaxed and effortless on the wedding day.
We created stunning portraits along the lakeshore with the mountains as a backdrop. The setting was simply perfect: the alpine lake, the reflections in the water, the soft autumn light, and the rich seasonal colors. We had so much fun during the session — listening to music and even dancing. The best men definitely played their part, making sure there was always laughter and a wonderful atmosphere.
Outdoor Ceremony in an Open Meadow
The ceremony took place in an open meadow next to the lodge. A friend of the bride officiated the wedding, there was live music, beautiful flowers, and the mountain panorama all around — it was simply breathtaking. The bride walked in with her father, while the groom waited beneath the floral arch, tears in his eyes.
As they read their vows to each other, many guests were moved to tears. Before exchanging rings, they included a wedding tradition I had never witnessed before: a “ring warming.” The rings were passed from guest to guest, and each person infused them with good wishes, love, and positive energy before the couple placed them on each other’s fingers.
For me, the ceremony was the highlight of the entire wedding report. The setting in the heart of nature, the atmosphere — it was truly magical.
Apéro and Wedding Celebration at PRIVA Alpine Lodge Lenzerheide
After the ceremony, the big tension melted away and the couple could finally relax and simply enjoy being celebrated. On the terrace of the lodge, a variety of delicious treats were served, wine and sparkling wine were poured, and everyone embraced the joyful atmosphere.
Congratulations, couple portraits, group photos, toasts… time flew by, and soon the evening air turned cool and the light began to fade. Guests gathered inside the dining hall, where creative games and lovingly prepared presentations awaited. There was so much laughter — well into the early hours of the morning.
I truly loved documenting this beautiful wedding celebration.
